The Weekly Wrap-Up (11/5/26)
1st XI
Flixton 118-5 20 overs (DLS target of 144) - Glossop 144-1 15.4 overs
- Matt Sonczak 1-23 (4)
- Anuk Fernando 1-23 (6)
- Lee Dale 76* (49)
- Chris Gill 42 (29)
Glossop lost the toss and had a bowl with a wet forecast to continue Gills fine form with having won one toss this season. Despite which the game started on time.
Fernando found good pace and rhythm early finding an early wicket breakthrough. Despite which Flixton were 45-1 on a fantastic batting surface again at North Rd when weather intervened after 10 overs. A fair few hours proceeded of watching it rain and another incredible tea provided. patience paid off with the game restarting at its latest point reducing the game to 20 overs per side. Hargreaves and Sonczak kept it tight with good skills and disciple with the ball in damp conditions supported by some great fielding from Ben Wilson with 2 run outs and outstanding acrobatics on the ropes from Sonczak. Flixton were restricted to 118-5 which was boosted to 143 with duckworth lewis.
An incredibly strong start from Gill and Dale again scoring at a quick rate of 10 runs an over got glossop way ahead of the rate early. With Gill falling for 42 and the score on 87 off 9 overs Dale and Fernando accumulated for a few overs before Dale went through the gears to finish the game in style and continue his early season form. A measly 280 runs in 4 innings and the small average of 140. Long may it continue.
Another bonus point win for glossop sitting 1 point off top of the table with good momentum and some key players coming back from injury. Lots of promise for the season!
2nd XI
Moorside 176-4 35 overs (DLS target 187) - Glossop 186-6 35 overs. Match tied
- Joe Doody 2-47 (11)
- David Wilde 61 (74)
- Joe Bolton 85* (98)
A resilient performance from the team to tie the match in awful conditions which Glossop had the rough end of.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl, Glossop had a decent start in restricting the run rate without taking wickets before the rain came. The delay cost 10 overs per side and meant Glossop’s bowlers resumed with an increasingly soft and slippery ball. Discipline with the ball and in the field was good but wickets were hard to come by in the conditions meaning a hefty total to chase.
Glossop’s innings built well with David Wilde (61) and Joe Bolton (85*) beginning watchfully, then releasing some sublime shot making all around the wicket with a great partnership of 116 and ahead of the rate. Wickets fell in the middle of the innings to stall progress somewhat, but Bolton stayed smart and fluent to see Glossop to the line. A case of 3 points gained rather than 2 dropped, and the 2’s remain unbeaten.
