The Weekly Wrap-Up (12/09/2026) — Season Finale
1st XI — Glossop won by 12 runs, finish third in the GMCL Championship
Glossop 129-9 (28 overs) beat Edenfield 117-9 (28 overs, revised target 130)
Bowling: Hargreaves 6-40 (9), Sonczak 2-20 (9)
Batting: Hayes 50* (37), Dale 39 (66)
A brutal final-day equation: match or beat Elton's result, with the weather nearly deciding it before a ball was bowled. Reduced to 28 overs on a tricky Gincroft Lane track, Glossop slumped to 21-3 before Dale's classy 39 anchored the innings. At 97-9 the game looked gone, until Hayes blazed an unbeaten 50 from 37 balls (four sixes), sharing a last-wicket stand of 32 with Booth to drag Glossop to 129.
Edenfield fought back through Howarth's quickfire 23, but two big moments turned it — a stunning rope catch and a caught-and-bowled, both removing the danger men. Hargreaves then ran through the order with 6-40, well supported by Sonczak's 2-20, before a run out sealed it. Edenfield fell 12 runs short in fading light.
Third place secured, one point clear of Elton — huge credit to the group, and to captain Gill, who held his nerve when the game was drifting.
2nd XI — Glossop won, finish the season in 4th place
Glossop 150-6 (30 overs) beat Shaw 149-9 (41 overs)
Bowling: Allen 5-31 (13)
Batting: Allen 69* (72), Coll 23* (42)
A light-hearted, rain-affected finale (reduced to 41 overs a side) that still had a sting in the tail — Shaw's Russell and Doherty added 43 for the fourth wicket before Allen ripped through the top order with 5-31. Chasing 150, Glossop slipped to 41-5, but Allen and Morris (15) steadied things with a stand of 40, before Allen — finishing unbeaten on 69 — and Coll (23*) added a further 69 to see the team home in style.
A brilliant achievement to finish 4th, with breakout performances all season from Bolton, Doody and Boothroyd pointing to real promise for next year.
Final word goes to Allen — an all-round display with bat and ball to cap a season that also included a monumental 102 not out. MVP.
3rd XI — CHAMPIONS! Glossop won by 99 runs to seal the title
Glossop 197-7 (40 overs) beat South West Manchester 4th XI 98 all out (30.4 overs)
Bowling: Nathan 4-22 (6), Mark Allen 2-7 (7), Bolton 2-12
Batting: Wilson 87* (79), Boothroyd 42 (31)
It looked anything but a coronation early on — Glossop slipped to 59-5 before captain Wilson produced the innings of the day, an unbeaten 87 from 79 balls. Boothroyd's 42 added 48 for the sixth wicket, and Doody (18) and Cox (10*) carried Glossop to a match-winning 197-7.
South West Manchester never recovered. Nathan was the wrecker-in-chief with 4-22, striking twice in three runs to leave the hosts 76-5, while Mark Allen was relentless at the other end (2-7 from seven overs, two maidens). Bolton, Cox, Edgar and Marsh shared the rest as the hosts folded for 98.
Ten wins on the bounce. Top of the table. Champions.
