The Weekly Wrap-Up (25/5/26)
1st XI
Dukinfield 222-9 (50) - Glossop 226-3 (36)
- Anuk Fernando 3-37 (9)
- Ben Wilson 3-41 (7)
- Matt Sonczak 2-40 (15)
- Lee Dale 88 (68)
- Chris Gill 61 (73)
- Anuk Fernando 57* (50)
A beautiful day at North Rd making a welcome change to the early season weather we have had. Glossop won the toss and had a bowl on a fantastic wicket despite the mid week rain.
Dukinfield started steadily and Fernando again found an early breakthrough with Booth bowling superbly for no reward. It was a great sight welcoming back Digby Evans with the ball at first change after injury and he continued his habit of finding wickets. We are looking forward to him building his fitness and what he will produce later in the season with him finding good pace. Dukinfields pro and opener looked to press the attack but our spin trio of Hargreaves, Sonczak and Wilson kept things tight picking up a steady supply of wickets through the innings and finishing on what would be a below par 222. Smiles all round for the lads with the performance but probably more so knowing what was in store for teas!
Another strong start from Gill and Dale again scoring at a quick rate. Dale took care of the seamers with some clean striking down the ground and Gill upped the rate against the spinners. Another stand of over 100 between our openers and severe pad rash for our middle order. Hopefully this continues to be a habit. Gill fell for 61 after hitting another short wide one straight to a fielder and Dale fell for 88 looking to finish the game quickly with the scores on 148 and 156. Fernando played some classy shots to build his 50 and see the lads home comfortably in 36 overs only 3 down.
Another bonus point win for glossop sitting 1 point off top of the table with key players returning to the side.
2nd XI
Micklehurst 147/10 (40.2) - Glossop 83/10 (22.4)
- Joe 5-39 (9)
- Dave Allen 3-28 (9)
- Sam Dyson 1-22 (9)
- Dan Eyre 46 (41)
- Sam Dyson 17 (11)
Tough day at Micklehurst for our 2s. Winning the toss and bowling first stand in skipper and Wilde started with Sam Dyson and Olly who both made early breakthroughs. The spinners Dave Allen and Joe then entered the fray with Dave getting 3 wickets and Joe 5 wickets. Late order runs meant Micklehurst finished on 146, 30 or 40 more than it looked like at one stage.
2nd half started very poorly meaning we were behind the game quickly. We were 5 for 5 and staring defeat in the face. Dan Eyre (46) batted superbly to give us some hope alongside Jack Thornborrow (12) and Sam Dyson (17*) but once Dan departed it was game over.
Tough day for our 2s, losing for the first time this season but positives to take from the first half.
3rd XI
Glossop 41/10 (19.3) - Mottram 42/3 (19.3)
A tough day at the office for the 3rd XI in the blistering heat at North Road. After winning the toss and opting to bat, tight Mottram bowling restricted Glossop to 41 runs. In response, Mottram knocked off the runs in steady fashion only loosing three wickets in the process.
Under 11's
Glossop 177 - Tintwistle 165
A fantastic Sunday morning at Glossop Cricket & Bowling Club as our Under 11s took on local rivals Tintwistle in the DCCL, coming away with a brilliant win on net score 177–165.
Tintwistle won the toss and elected to bat, posting 60 from their 16 overs. Our bowlers were magnificent throughout — Louis was particularly impressive with a maiden over and a wicket, Leo taking three, Emilio and Jake each chipped in with two wickets apiece.
With the bat, it was an ebb and flow of runs and wickets. The best however was left til last with Vincent and Max at the crease. A superb innings from captain Vincent, who finished unbeaten on 29 leading Glossop to victory.
Arthur and Louis also contributed well, with the whole batting lineup showing great determination across the 16 overs.
A real team performance from start to finish — every single player played their part with both bat and ball.
Player Of The Match - Vincent
The skipper led from the front today, setting the standards for the team. A matching winning performance with the bat, 29 not out; in the field he took two catches and a stumping.
